Day trip to traditional villages

Today we drove to a few villages that still have many traditional wooden homes. Some of the homes have been converted to guesthouses but, at least when we visited, there were very few tourists.

This was our first experience of driving on rural secondary roads in Bulgaria. These were, in theory, paved two lane roads, but the experience in places was more like travelling on logging road; hairpin turns, crazy stretches of potholes, and sometimes the brush was so overgrown that it would almost touch the car on both sides. However, the countryside and views made it worthwhile.
